‘Training Day’ Director, ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’ Writer Team Up For ‘Scarface’ Remake

Hollywood seems to be having some creative issues, as it was announced that Universal will be rebooting the 1983 classic Scarface, which itself is a remake of a 1932 film.
Scarface stars Al Pacino as Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant who lives the American dream by starting a cocaine empire.
Apparently Universal has had this particular plan for awhile and has been shopping around for the right script and director.
The studio has apparently settled on director Antoine Fuqua (of Training Day fame) and writer/producer Terrence Winter who wrote Wolf of Wall Street and worked on The Sopranos.
There aren’t too many details around how this 21st century Scarface reboot is going to be any different than the original besides the national origin of Sccarface.
As Variety reports, this time Scarface will be Mexican:

“The pic is a reimagining of the core immigrant story told in both the 1932 and 1983 films. The new film will be set in Los Angeles and will focus on a Mexican immigrant.”

This all sounds rather interesting and seeing Fuqua and Winter team up together should be interesting. There is no word on who will be playing the leading role.
The lesson here, as always, is that if it struck gold once, even twice, Hollywood will not hesitate to just make the same film once again.
