Amazon Go Supermarkets Will Allow You To Buy Without Checking Out

Powered by Amazon Go, their new app that works with their brick and mortar store, the shipping giant seeks to reduce customer hassle during the shopping experience by utilizing revolutionary technology that tracks items that a customer has taken.
The entire experience is completely devoid of long lines or the mistakes of self-checkout. Amazon is pushing for a complete walk-in, take item, walk out environment.
In a promo video released by Amazon, customers download the Amazon Go app to any supported smartphone and are allowed access to the store. As described by Amazon, the store utilizes,

“Computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. Our Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart.”

Per the company’s description page, the idea came back in 2012, with the concept of revolutionizing the shopping experience, stating,

“Could we push the boundaries of computer vision and machine learning to create a store where customers could simply take what they want and go? Our answer to those questions is Amazon Go and Just Walk Out Shopping.”

The brick and mortar store, located in Seattle, Washington, is a new 1800 square foot store is currently only available to beta test by the company’s employees, however is slated for a full opening in early 2017.
