Studies Show ‘Sexpectations’ Are Most Important In A Healthy Relationship
Communication is very important in every aspect of life, and sex is no different. There are a lot of thoughts and theories about what makes a mutually successful sex life. A new study have found that people have one of two intrinsic beliefs about success related to relationships.
1. That good mutual sex takes hard work
or
2. Once you find your soulmate, it’ll come naturally and you won’t have to work for it
These may seem like simple opinions, but these differing beliefs will either hinder or help your relationship in the long run.
A study conducted by Jessica Maxwell of the University of Toronto in proved that people who believe that sex takes hard work, also believe that any problems in the relationship are derivative of what happens in the bedroom, and that those problems (or success) in sex will affect every other aspect of the relationship, and the relationship as a whole.
The study also showed that those who believed that once they found “true love”, they wouldn’t really have to work, felt that the results and successes of sexual practice in their relationships were isolated, and it did not affect any area of their relationship (probably because they weren’t letting it).
Another study that interviewed 1,900 people from both homosexual and heterosexual relationships, and showed that after the first few years of the relationship, couples who believed that work was needed to maintain mutual sexual satisfaction, were generally happier and more satisfied.
